The Mark Twain Health District is just one of the 42 Special Districts in Calaveras County who receive an allocation of revenues from property taxes. It is always important to know how this money is spent and how our residents receive a benefit in return.

In 2010, the district supported many community benefit activities mentioned in the Annual 2010 Report to the Community. The District also supported many projects that brought value and benefits to the community and district. The most notable and strategic activity, was the purchase of land in Angels Camp which will be used to support the relocation and enhancement of the Family Medical Center. Read more about the accomplishments and the future strategies of Mark Twain Health Care District in our 2010 Report to the District.

In an effort to better meet the health and wellness needs of Calaveras County, the MTHCD Board agreed that a District website was the best platform to keep the public informed about governance and to create greater transparency to the communities served. The MTHCD website was launched in 2012.

In 2013, MTHCD established the “Annual Golden Health Awards” to recognize and award deserving non-profits and individuals for their contributions to the health and wellness of the Calaveras County. The District contributed a combined total of $30,000 in grants in 2013 and 2014.  Read more about other District achievements in the 2012 and 2013 review.
